David Dunlap
David joined the SJFWA in 2002, but his love for woodworking began long ago as a little guy with nothing more than a coping saw and a piece of discarded plywood. With some silver paint and some glitter, several fine Christmas ornaments were created by the 10 year old craftsman in the basement of his central Indiana home.
David's Indiana upbringing included many years of FFA and 4-H activities. This combined with his love for anything agricultural created a path which wandered through many livestock adventures, high school employment in a grain elevator and a feed mill, and a degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University.
Immediately following graduation, David married his high school sweetheart and went to work at Production Credit Association in Lafayette, Indiana where he made short term operating loans to local farmers. He then switched jobs and went to work for Travelers Insurance Company making long term real estate loans to farmers. That led to moving to Ohio, Illinois, Connecticut, Colorado and eventually California where he has been since 1993. During that time he has been to every state except Alaska making loans to farmers on just about any crop you can think of. He is blessed with two grown children, a son-in-law in the Marines and two young grand children.
David has added a few tools and other toys to his collection since that first coping saw, which he still has by the way. That includes the Indiana tractors that he grew up on, the Dodge pickup he learned to drive in and a woodworking shop that he loves to share with his woodworking buddies in support of the club's toy making initiative.
David has served as North Refreshments Chairman, Newsletter Editor and President of the SJFWA since joining in 1992.
