Lathe Tool Sharpening Class
Craig Miller, with the help of Stan Stephens, taught the class on sharpening lathe tools. Sharp tools are much safer than dull tools when turning and are less likely to catch. Covered in the class were the advantages and disadvantages of different cutting angles, types of jigs to hold the tools during sharpening, and websites and manufacturers to get additional information. Also covered where the use of CBN sharpening wheels, which most of the students decided they couldn’t live without. After the lecture, students were encouraged to sharpen their own lathe tools, with Craig and Stan providing guidance throughout the process.
